7 February – DOGMA @ AA School

7 February – Fabio Gramazio @ UCL Bartlett School of Architecture
The new frontiers of robotics and digital fabrication in architecture, narrated by the ETH-based Italian half of Gramazio & Kohler.
Heavyweights at the Italian Cultural Institute for a debate on the conservation of the modern built heritage. 19 February – Carlo Ratti @ Royal Academy of Arts
The latest researches of the MIT Senseable City Lab presented by the rising star of smart urbanism and one of the great Italian architects of his generation. The talk will be followed by a drinks reception.
26 February – Architecture on stage: Flores i Prats @ Barbican
The Frobisher Auditorium 1 will host the Catalan duo for the third debate on contemporary practice organised this year by the Architecture Foundation.
27 February – Europa: France + Spain @ RIBA
If you missed them at the Barbican, you can meet Flores i Prats at the RIBA tonight, together with Antonini + Darmon Architects (FR), UHO (FR) and Barozzi Veiga (ES).
Grima is the founder of Space Caviar, a forward-thinking architecture and research practice based in Genoa. He will discuss the intersection of design, technology, activism and the public realm in the eerie setting of 13 Lincoln’s Inn Fields.
5, 12, 26 February – Who cares? The CASS explores humanitarianism @ CASS
One of the hottest topics in the political agenda will enliven the evenings of the “Aldgate Bauhaus” until March. This month the discussion will be facilitated by Assemble and Rara (5 February), Tak Tak Tak and Khora (12 February) and Tumpa Yasmin and Studio Nuumi (26 February).
8, 15, 22 February – Constructing Realities Lectures @ UCL Here East
Boundary-pushing lectures in the brand new UCL workshop located at the edge of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, a stone throw away from the Hackney Wick creative quarter. Ollie Palmer, Mario Carpo and Lisa Finlay on stage this month.
6-8 February – Surface Design Show @ Business Design Centre
Tiles, marble, building materials. But also seminars, workshops and cross-disciplinary debates. Kick-off on Tuesday evening with “A crisis for the next generation – is London just for the wealthy?”. Panelists: RIBA President Ben Derbyshire, NLA Chairman Peter Murray, Louise Wyman (Homes & Communities Agency), David Lunts (GLA), Zohra Chiheb (Levitt Bernstein) and Andy van Bradsky (DCLG). Pechakucha Night on Wednesday (“Beyond Brick – Creating a new London Vernacular”) and prize-giving ceremony of the Surface Design Awards on Thursday.
Planning and Sustainability
20 February – Sara Fox @ UCL Bartlett School of Planning
“The Iron Fist” is quite a punchy title for a seminar. Sara Fox was the project director of the new Swiss Re London headquarters i.e. The Gherkin. She will share her soft and hard project management skills as part of the “London Planning” series. En garde.
21 February – Specifi Landscape @ Crypt on the Green
Annual event dedicated to landscape architects, ecologists and planners. Brainstorming sessions, networking drinks, a lecture and a dinner. For free. Really? Yes.
The debate surrounding the new London Plan and Sadiq Khan’s environmental strategy is now ripe. Quick-fire discussions at the NLA tonight to inspire urban designers and spark collective action towards a better metropolis for all.
Places, data and well-being. The basic variables of town planning, reformulated once again in the arena of Futures Cities Catapult by digital disruptors and innovative urbanists. Programme coming soon.
26 February – Healthy Buildings and Communities for Tomorrow @ ARUP
The “Knowledge café” set up by ARUP and City Architecture Forum will open its doors to six panelists discussing the best practices in health-oriented place-making.
Real Estate and Construction
15 February – PropTeq @ DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel
Innovators will gather at the DoubleTree to have crunch talks on the emerging technologies in the real estate sector. Unlike many similar events, there will be no debates or conferences. Self-generated discussion groups will exchange ideas and business opportunities following four themes: “Big Picture”, “Commercial”, “Residential” and “Investment”.
20 February – Property Week Regenerate Conference 2018 @ U+I
The conference will showcase the most interesting urban regeneration projects and will facilitate networking between public and private stakeholders. The tickets are sold out but a waiting list is open.
With a mix of estate agents, lawyers and analysts in the audience and no-frills motivational speakers in the panel the event will be a tonic for the new season and a good occasion to discuss the latest market trends.
